Through the increased use of sensors in tools and extended reporting made possible by the Internet of Things, Sandvik Coromant wants to flip the script on how metalworking companies run and manage their machining tools.
Rather than replace tools on set dates or because a machine instructs a user to do so, Sandvik Coromant engineers view the expanding use of smart devices as the ideal way to improve both a business’s competitiveness and bottom line.
This strategy earned the cutting machines maker the Gold Award in the IMTS Exhibitor Product Innovation Competition for Silent Tools Plus, its reimagining of a legacy long bore turning tool.
We get a tour of the latest product releases on the floor at IMTS 2018.
