MSC eProcurement capabilities support four unique methods of shopping:
MSC Punch-out catalogs (preferred) is a derivative of mscdirect.com and was established to create private shopping experiences for customers. Each Punch-out catalog is unique to the customer, has the latest contract pricing, allows searches by customer part number, and access to all catalog items and special items.
You can watch our MSC Punch-out Demo video here.
Hosted Catalogs allow search within customers’ procurement system using a ‘marketplace’ type experience for only pre-negotiated items. It is important to note that these catalogs are static, limited in size and prices are locked in our system until updates can be sent to the customer. Additionally, the search experience is poor, and certainly not on the level of Punch-out. Hosted Catalogs are preferred by customers who want control of the data, do not have the capabilities to support punch-out and are looking for an “Amazon-like” search experience.
Punchout Level II provides the “Amazon-like” marketplace search experience while utilizing the search engine of the customer’s eProcurement system. Like hosted catalogs, customers looking to control the search and provide their employees with the ability to compare results across different suppliers can leverage this.
ERP Storeroom Generated Orders & Short-Text is costliest of the four methods that we support. In this example, MSC has no control of the data, and we see a high percentage of failed orders due to invalid price, UOM (unit or measure), part numbers, etc. Bad data leads to order delays, downstream invoice failures and a much higher cost to serve and total cost of ownership.
