SOCKETS AND DRIVE TOOLS
Hand sockets and impact sockets are never interchangeable. Impact sockets are made of softer metal that can absorb the shock and speed of an impact gun.
Choose the right socket for the job. Use the same number of points as your fastener whenever possible.
Inspect tools for wear. Look for rounded, cracked, or damaged sockets and replace when necessary.
Increase torque with long handled ratchet or torque multiplier instead of using a “cheater bar”.
WRENCHES
Use a wrench with an anti-slip design to help prevent the wrench from slipping off the fastener when turning, reducing fastener damage.
Use a torque multiplier or slugging wrench for a really tight fastener.
Make sure an adjustable wrench is set to grip the fastener securely.
To keep from slipping, use a ratcheting wrench.
Never use pliers in place of a wrench. Pliers are used for bending, compressing and holding objects firmly, not for loosening or tightening a fastener.
STRIKING AND STRUCK TOOLS
Never strike with the side and always strike squarely.
Make sure the striking face of the hammer has a diameter at least 3/8" larger than the face of the struck tool.
Always use non-sparking tools near flammable substances
