We're gonna talk about edge prep today. When choosing an insert's edge prep, it's important to first know the material and cutting conditions of the applications.

If cutting softer materials like aluminum, an F edge prep would be recommended. This is the sharpest and it also has the freest cutting capabilities.

If you're using the shoulder mill in a long overhang application, an F is recommended to help reduce chatter.

On the other end of the scale, we have the S edge prep for harder material that might encounter severe interruptions.

The S is the strongest edge prep that combines a T-Land and a hone. While being the strongest, it also has higher cutting forces than an F, making it greater for tougher applications.
