Prescription Eyewear Use is Rising

We rely on our eyes to experience the world — and to make a living. Clear vision is also vital to avoiding injury at work. Two out of three adults wear prescription glasses. Prescription eyeglass use is on the rise, and workers’ vision must remain corrected — even when safety eyewear is worn. 

Factors Fueling the Rise in Corrective Eyewear Use

• Aging workforce — Prescription eyeglass usage has increased most among this generation and many work part-time. Baby Boomers  (55+) make up one quarter of the U.S. workforce.
• Digital eyestrain — Digital eyestrain is causing a rapid increase in myopia (nearsightedness). 83% of Americans report using digital devices more than two hours a day. 60.5% report experiencing symptoms of digital eye strain including: eye strain, dry eyes, blurred vision and headaches.
