Our tech team just fielded a call from a machinist who was using a 45 deg. face mile 2.5” for chamfering some aluminum.
The machinist was using inserts he had around the shop. Our tech questioned him as to what they were. When our tech found out they were for steel he realized that’s why they we’re not leaving the finish the machinist needed.
Our tech recommended using a sharper harder insert H10 grade from Sandvik, which is designed for aluminum verified speeds and feeds the machinist was running.
