Machinists are tasked with getting the most out of their machines—every day, all day. Why? Shop owners care about faster time to return on investment.
By moving to a different Iscar milling tool at Aerotech Machining, its machinists gained three minutes in cycle time (from nine minutes down to six minutes on milling a specific part). That was a 214 percent increase in machine productivity because of additional spindle time.
“The shorter the cycle time, the more parts we can put through the machine per hour,” Joey Jones, founder and president of the aerospace and industrial parts maker, told us for an article.
The tool gets better life—and saved the company about $12,000 a year, Jones estimates. Those funds can be used for other things, such as helping to pay down the company’s 35 CNC machines or its new state-of-the-art metrology lab.
