1/2" Groove

1/2" Groove

It's been a while since I've had to shop for inserts and holders.  I am trying to cut a 1/2" groove, 1/2" deep into aluminum on a lathe.  I'm looking for the correct insert and holder.  Thanks

Hello Mathew,

Thank you for your inquiry!

What size shank tool do you need?

Is this in a manual or a cnc machine?

msc part# 01723931 with the #  58500109 insert will get it done if 3/4" tools are what you use

Thank you for your response.  It's actually a 1/2" RADIUS groove.  3/4" Shank.  Manual.  I used to know the math to use a smaller radius insert and step down to create the radius.  If I have to I will familiarize myself with that process.  BTW, this is for a pipe bending fixture, thus the 1/2" groove to lay the 1/2" tubing in.  Thanks again.

Hello Matthew,

Just checking up with you . Have you come up with a viable solution?

One way is to use MSC# 76741776 and machine 1/4" off the bottom along with insert# 56990864

then it would be a straight plunge cut
