We want to see your shop!
Over the years we have had many people working at our CNC machines. I was originally in charge of the shop, but moved into engineering in the early 2000s. When I left the shop most of our tools were prety well organized, and I knew exactly what I wanted to do each job. This was a great time savings, but things aren't what they were. Now finding a tool to do a job takes way to long. We have many tools that I don't even know what they are, so I have no idea of what material they are best suited for cutting, let alone feeds and speeds. I have recently moved back out into the shop and my head is just swimming. You can't imagine the frustrations I'm having on even the simplest of jobs. I have begun to restock some of the types of cutters we used to use when I was back here in the shop before but it is a long uphill road to get there.
Every time I look at our cutters and the way they have been cared for I shutter. End mills just thrown in a droor without any protection. many of them chipped and damaged because of not taking care of them when they are not in use. What a waste, but what did they care they were not owners of the company. So it wasn't their money they were waisting. Since being back here I have been able to get the folks we now have to start taking better care of their tools, but without organization and stadardization, it still takes far too long to find the tool that is being called for in the job. or to even know if we have the tool in stock that is being called for in a program.
I took some pics of my mess but was unable to get them to upload to you unfortunately. It said they were too large of a file. go figure you want pictures but can't handle uploading them. Lol
