USES FOR DUPONT PPE

Upstream

The upstream oil sector encompasses a variety of worker tasks that may require differing levels of protection, from equipment maintenance to oil-based drilling. Hazards vary from low-level dirt and grime to low concentrations of chemicals in oil-based muds.

Mid and Downstream

Workers may be exposed to a variety of chemical hazards on a site-bysite basis. Sulfuric acid and caustic chemicals are used at most sites as part of the refining process. Many sites also use a variety of solvents including benzene, xylene and toluene. Key activities include:

  • Catching chemical samples

  • Breaking lines

  • Loading and unloading rail cars or tankers

  • Drumming product
