VIDEO: Mitutoyo AI Inspect – Next Generation Defect Detection

Mitutoyo AI Inspect is a standalone software product. It is designed to provide customers with a next-generation visual AI-based image defect analysis system. AI Inspect features an intuitive interface with exceptional data visualization. There is no need for prior AI or data science experience to produce highly robust detection models. AI Inspect is capable of creating a model to detect a wide array of defects such as scratches, burrs, cracks, dents, inclusions and misprints for a multitude of products. This is useful in a broad range of industries, including automotive, food, electronics, semiconductor, plastics, medical, aerospace, printing, textiles, and many more.

AI Inspect encompasses two modules, the training module and the runtime module. The training module allows users to develop inspection routines for automated implementation of defect detection using sets of video images. Both defect and normal images are used to create the AI project.

The runtime module, which is a separate purchase, allows the trained AI model to be incorporated into an inspection system with the included software development kit. The intuitive interface of the training module steps the user through importing, marking, training, and deploying the model for use in the runtime module. Importing images is as simple as dragging and dropping images to the normal or defect fields. Defect marking consists of easy to use tools to mark the defects on the uploaded images. Training allows the user to set various image enhancement tools. Thresholds are set with a graphical interface, allowing the operator to adjust the pass and fail image scores. Once deployed from the training module, the model can be imported into the runtime module. This module resides on imaging hardware on the factory floor and does the defect detection.

Mitutoyo's runtime module includes a software development kit and also includes an inference application. The inference application tests new image sets to compare and test the newly created AI Inspect model.
