ALYSSA O'BRIEN: Hi, my name is Alyssa O'Brien and I'm a Product Engineer. My department and under my role as a product engineer, I am responsible for not only bringing in these products to sell within our market, but teaching people how to use them. I'd say that some top characteristics that make a great product engineer would be inquisitiveness, an eye for design, a want to create something that makes people's lives easier.
It was a field and an interest that I knew I could excel in. You know, it's a very rewarding industry, if you like to learn, if you like to build and create. I honestly didn't even look left or right to see if there was anybody judging me for being a woman trying to get into this. Just go for it.
TREY FRY: Hi, my name is Trey Fry, and I'm a Manufacturing Engineer. So we make the prints for all the tools, so we'll suit the customer needs, we’ll basically interact with the customer on some special occasions and we’ll basically sit down and figure out what they want, what they need. I had a strong interest in aviation when I was younger, and it just kind of blossomed into the whole overall interest in just the manufacturing industry.
So we have prints that we design in AutoCAD that we print off. It just basically contains all the information, all the specs that they need. The characteristics of a good manufacturing engineer would probably be problem solving skills and communication. You're in constant communication with your peers and the engineering team. My goal right now as a young engineer is just to move my way up the ranks as quick as I can.
I come in with a great attitude every day and try and learn as much as I can so I can move up and become a better engineer and advance my career.
HOMERO VALDEZ: Hi, my name is Homero Valdez and I'm the Production Supervisor. My typical day is just coming in and knowing that the orders that we have running the machines are on schedule. My dad, actually, he was the one that would show me some drills that were made at his company. So eventually I started asking my dad if I could go to work with him on Saturdays.
So he would take me to work on Saturdays and I saw and it was amazing. I was like, man this is amazing. So I always wondered how we made those drills. Those drills that were made, now I make them. Great production supervisor for my opinion would be someone who has great leadership, showing respect to your employees, showing that you care, showing that you will be there with them and having knowledge of understanding the machines too as well. No matter what, always go a little bit above and beyond. Do your best, go for it, aim for it. Because if you take the initiative, you're always going to learn something new.
